Media Gathering - "Brain Tumors Can Be Treated Optimally If Detected Early"
Premier Bintaro Hospital Media Gathering
Jakarta — Premier Bintaro Hospital held another Media Gathering, this time titled "Brain Tumors Can Be Treated Optimally If Detected Early" on:
Thursday, June 18, 2026, at PUJA Bumi Kenduri The Trunojoyo, South Jakarta.
Brain tumors remain a health issue that frequently raises concerns among the public. However, with early detection and appropriate treatment, many brain tumor cases can be optimally managed and provide patients with a good quality of life.

Through a Media Gathering event titled "Brain Tumors and Their Management," Premier Bintaro Hospital presented Dr. Moch. Evodia Slamet R, Sp.BS, a Neurosurgeon, to educate the public about the types, symptoms, and various treatment options for brain tumors through the media.
According to Dr. Moch. Evodia Slamet R, Sp.BS, brain tumors are divided into two main groups: primary tumors, which originate in brain tissue or the meninges, and secondary tumors (metastases), which are the spread of cancer from other organs, such as the breast, lungs, and thyroid. According to international data, approximately 72% of primary brain tumors are benign, while 28% are malignant.
Currently, many people assume all brain tumors are malignant. In fact, the majority of primary brain tumors are benign. However, both benign and malignant tumors can be dangerous because they are located within the confined space of the head, where they can press on brain tissue and disrupt vital functions.
Brain tumors can cause various symptoms, including:
- Chronic headaches that worsen and are accompanied by blurred vision
- First seizure in adulthood
- Impaired balance and coordination
- Weakness in the arms or legs
- Hearing loss
- Personality changes
- Vomiting and decreased consciousness.
In some cases, brain tumors can become emergencies, such as hydrocephalus (a buildup of cerebrospinal fluid) or bleeding within the tumor, which require immediate treatment to prevent permanent brain damage or death.
To confirm the diagnosis, CT scans and MRIs with contrast are often necessary, as non-contrast imaging may not optimally depict the tumor.
Premier Bintaro Hospital offers a variety of comprehensive, multidisciplinary brain tumor treatment options, including:
- Medication therapy to reduce symptoms and brain swelling
- Open, microscopic, and endoscopic neurosurgery
- Radiotherapy, including Gamma Knife Radiosurgery
- Chemotherapy in certain cases, such as glioblastoma.
One technology of choice in certain cases is Gamma Knife Radiosurgery, a non-surgical procedure that uses focused radiation to control tumor growth, especially in small tumors. This method requires only one procedure and leaves no surgical scars.

Through this activity, the most important message for the public is not to ignore chronic and progressive neurological symptoms. Early screening can increase the chances of successful treatment and prevent more serious complications.
Premier Bintaro Hospital hopes to raise public awareness about the importance of recognizing brain tumor symptoms, seeking screening as early as possible, and understanding that current advances in medical technology have provided a variety of effective and safe treatment options for patients.
